Recipe –
1 cup of green peas
(I used green peas from a jar but you can use frozen peas that have been defrosted)
350g of chickpeas (washed & drained)
1/2 cup of oat flour
1 large white onion (diced)
1 clove of garlic (diced)
TBSP of pure maple syrup
Spices – 1 large tsp of each spice
– cumin powder, coriander powder, mint, nutmeg, & surinamese massala
Sea- salt, black pepper & chilli flakes to taste
Method-
– Saute the diced onion & garlic in a skillet with coconut oil, the maple syrup, sea salt, black pepper & chilli flakes until caramelized & golden brown.
-Leave the caramelized onion to cool for 5-10 minutes.
– Mash the peas & chickpeas together in a large bowl with a fork or a potato masher.
-Add the caramelized onion to the pea & chickpea mixture.
-Add the spices & any extra sea-salt & black pepper to taste.
-Now add the oat flour & mix in well.
-Leave the mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes.
-Pre heat the oven to 200 degrees.
– Remove from the fridge & form into 6 even sized veggie burgers.
-Bake your burgers in the oven for 25 minutes.
-Lightly fry each burger in a pan with coconut oil until golden brown on each side.
